I have a data set that includes self-report data from mother and daughter pairs. I would like to run in model in which the mother-self report variables are the exogenous variables and the daughter reported variables are the criterion variables. The data is in a flat file.

I'm not interested in APIM so I'm only concerned with the daughter's outcomes. Can I run this model as is, or would this violate assumptions of non-independence?

If the data are in a multivariate wide format with mothers variables and daughters variables, multivariate analysis takes care of any non-independence of observations.

Thanks so much for your response, Dr. Muthen.
