I ran into problems when I converted SPSS sav file into .dat file. MPlus was unable to read the file: it came across strange characters in the beginning of the file and stopped processing. I took a look at the file in TextPad and discovered it was in UFT-8 format (Unicode something). I converted the file to DOS and MPlus had no problems reading it.
Is there code that I can include in my program so that when I grab data from SPSS I don't have to do a two-step?
