Hi,

I am running a threelevel random model with Mplus. In fact, the IV, mediators, and the DV are in level 1; the moderator is in level 2; no variable in level 3.

In Variable commend, I indicated "cluster = Lv2id Lv3id"; "between are the moderator". In Model commend, I indicated "%between Lv3id%" and additionally put the DV in this section.

However, the results showed an error message:

"*** ERROR in VARIABLE command Unknown option: Lv3id". I don't know how to fix the problem." Even though I removed Lv3id, the same message appeared again for Lv2id.

Can you help, please? Thanks a lot.

Dear Muthen,

Thanks for your reply. I have solved the problem myself as I missed the step of importing data.

I still receive a message and don't know what it means.

The GROUPMEAN specification for TYPE=THREELEVEL must include the name of
the cluster variable for the cluster means.

Dear Muthen,

Thanks once again. It works.

However, I received a new error message as below.

Variable on the left-hand side of an ON statement in a | statement is a
WITHIN variable. The intercept for this variable is not random.
Variable: V1

I noted that you mentioned in another post that if V1 has random slop than it should be removed from the within list. However, if it is removed, how can we produce the random slope of the level 1 relationship related to V1?

Dear Muthen,

I have just solved the problem I asked previously. I then received the below error message. However, I did not put any variable on level 3. Can you please help explain? Thanks.

The CENTER function with GROUPMEAN is not allowed for variables that exist on all 3 levels.
