I need to plot many individual growth curves across three waves of data. I use the Graph button and then view graphs, but then none of the choices are highlighted and there is nothing to click on. This seems inconsistent with the documentation, so probably there is a trick I don't know. How do I plot these curves? Thanks.

It sounds like you did not use the PLOT command and the SERIES option.

Perfect; thanks. My bad.

Sorry if it is obvious but I have looked... how does one plot individual's curves as opposed to mean curves?

The PLOT command provides individual curves as well as mean curves.

Thanks, but is it possible that it doesn't when you have a multiple-indicator model? I can get the individual curves when there is just one indicator modelled...

The only thing I can think of is that you need to do one indicator at a time.

I was working on my individual growth plot as well. I actually was able to get the indivudal curves with my below syntax:

USEVARIABLES ARE
t1 t2 t3;

MODEL:

i s | t1@0 t2@1 t3@2;

PLOT:
TYPE IS PLOT3;
SERIES IS t1(s) t2(s) t3(s);

But, I received a warning:

*** WARNING in PLOT command
Note that only the first 8 characters of variable names are used in plots.
If variable names are not unique within the first 8 characters, problems
may occur.

Should I just ignore it, or this is something wrong? Thanks a lot for your help!

I have also just tried to make plots with latent variables (instead of using sums of the indicator). Unlie when fitting the model using sum scores, I found with the latent variables I could not get the individual curve plotted anymore. I got an "estimated means" option in the plot button, and it only gives a straight line, which I think is probably the slope mean? Is it possible to have individual plots with the latent variables?

The warning is just telling you that only the first 8 characters will show in the plot. If you have several variables that begin with the same 8 characters, you may not know what is being plotted.

No, individual plots are not available with latent variables.

Thanks very much. I don't think I have got any variables over 8 characters model or the plot. I hope it is just generic and not because I have had something wrong in the model

It is the names of the variables that are over 8 characters. If you can't see this, send your output and license number to support@statmodel.com.
