Hi all, I have several warnings in the output of my multigroup CFA script that say: WARNING: THE BIVARIATE TABLE OF *some dichotomous item* AND *some other dichotomous item* HAS AN EMPTY CELL. At the end of these warnings, it says: THE MODEL ESTIMATION TERMINATED NORMALLY And the rest of the output, including the parameter estimates, look normal. Should I be worried? Many thanks in advance! |

The issue is that an empty cell implies a correlation of one. When two variables correlate one, only one of them should be used in the analysis. |

Thanks! This may be a silly question but: what if an empty cell occurs only in one or two of the many groups in a multigroup CFA? Would it still be okay to use both variables in the analysis or would that violate some assumption? |

If you have empty cells for only some groups, then it is a problem for those groups. You might want to search for papers by Albert Maydeu who has studied this topic. |
