Is it possible to compare the fit of a mixture model to that of a model in which class membership is constrained toa previously identified categories?

For example, in an organizational context ... is it possible to compare the fit of a taxonomy derived from a mixture model with that of a model in which members are constrained to categories of a pre-existing conceptual typology (e.g., Miles and Snow)?

As long as the same observed variables are used, you should be able to use BIC for this.

Linda,

I apologize for not being more specific in the original post ...

Are there examples of this in any of the training videos, newer user guide examples or sample papers? I am not certain how to set up this analysis (model syntax, options, etc.).

Thanks,

George

There is not example of this exact comparison. The user's guide has many mixture model examples. You would use the KNOWNCLASS option to create classes according to the identified categories.
