Hello Prof Muthen,
I am a very new user of Mplus, and I have done some EFA and CFA models of different activities engaged by respondents (observed variables). One factor extracted is composed of 4 different activities: A, B, C,and D with factor loadings ranging from 0.813-0.963. Prior to conducting EFA and CFA, a correlation analysis was done, which shows that A and C are highly correlated (r= 0.713), and B and D are highly correlated (r= 0.595). Based on the correlation, a behavioral pattern can be understood in that people usually do activity A along with activity C, and they also do activity B along with D. The question is that since A, B, C, D are all put under the same factor by EFA and CFA, Can I say that in addition to the same dimension A,B,C,D represent, when respondents do activity A, they also do activities B,C,D altogether? This question is asked because I have found that most interpretation of factors and indicators focuses on factor loading indicating the relationship between the factor and indicator variables, but rarely on the relationship among the indicator variables themselves under the same factor.
Would you please clarifying this point or perhaps directing me to some relevant resources? Thank you |
