I'm new to Mplus and new to ESEM so please forgive my ignorance. I am trying to use ESEM to examine the structure of a Big Five personality measure. I've found the examples in the manual to be very helpful in bringing me up to speed on several other analyses, but am not sure which of the examples in Chapter Five of the manual is most similar to the type of analysis that was conducted in the Marsh et al (2010) paper.

Any direction on examples to consider or how to structure the input correctly would be appreciated.

The ESEM examples are 5.24 through 5.27.

Right, sorry I guess I wasn't clear. I was wondering which of those examples was most similar to the application used in the Marsh et al (2010) study on the Big Five. More explicitly, how would I go about determining how well a five factor solution fits the data in terms of ESEM. Would this be 5.25?

If so, I'm having trouble understanding how this example would extrapolate to a Big Five inventory, with 6 indicators each for five factors.

Thank you.

I now realize I was perhaps making it more complicated than it needed to be.

Would a straightforward ESEM of the inventory I mentioned (6 indicators each for 5 factors; so 30 total) just be:

MODEL: f1-f5 BY y1-y30(*1);

Is that correct?

Yes, that is correct.

Many thanks for your help and patience, Linda!
