Hi,

I'm trying to run a CFA on MPlus but, since it's my first time, am just getting to grips with getting the data into the programme to start with. :-)

I've sorted out various naming issues, etc. but when I try to run it now it says there's a 'wrong character' or something similar in the data file. Looking at a previous post, you mentioned this was because a symbol was in the to row of the data file which needed to be deleted (something to do with new versions of SPSS).

However, when I try to open my data file (a .csv), I get this error message - "A sharing violation occurred while accessing E:\PhD (R&R), etc."

I'm using version 4.2 for reference sake. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sartois

Open the data file in the Mplus Editor. If you see an invalid character at the beginning of the file, delete it an resave the data set. If you don't, open the file in Excel and save it as a DOS txt file.

The message you get is not related to Mplus. It sounds like you don't have access rights on the E drive.

Hi Linda,

The excel re-saving as a DOS txt file seems to have worked, so thank you very much for that. Now I can start work on getting the CFA running. :-)

Thanks,

Sartois
