I am wondering whether one could use the results from a Mplus monte carlo simulation study to quantify the 'difference' in the parameter estimates when analysing data as continuous vs. analysing data as categorical - does this make sense?

My case refers to a CFA with five indicators asssessed on a five point scale. Reviewers argue that these indicators MUST be considered categorical instead of treating them as continuous - and ideally, I'd like to examine this advice empirically...
