Hello Dr Muthen

I am conducting a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and would like to investigate whether my CFA meets the local independence assumption. I read the literature which says people usually examine "residual correlation" of a pair of items (criterion 0.2). I wonder how can I find "residual correlation" in Mplus? Can you advise which syntax I should use to demonstrate (or test) the local independence. Thanks.

A better way is to use Modification indices for the residual covariances among the factor indicators. Say

modindices(all)

in the Output command to get these.

You can also work with the Residual option of the Output command.
