Using growth modeling, I am trying to model growth in symptoms of depression (a somewhat continuous variable) and number of cigarettes smoked per month (a zero-inflated count variable) as parallel processes. In my model, I treat depression and smoking as continuous variables (following Example 6.13 from the Mplus 3 User's Manual). I am wondering whether it is possible to do this type of model with one continuous variable and one count variable. If so, what is the required syntax?
Yes, you can have one growth model for a continuous outcome and another for a count outcome. You would use the COUNT option to specify that the variable is a count variable. See Examples 6.6 and 6.7 for further specifications.
