Hi Bengt and/or Linda,
I have a question regarding the "two-level growth modeling" in the manual:

I understand the between-groups part of the model, but was wondering about your take on the within-groups part of the model.

It seems that the within-groups model can only capture individuals' movement within the distribution of their respective group, and therefore the growth factor means at the within-groups level are to always be zero. (This, obviously, has pretty serious implications for conceptualizing predictor/growth-factor relationships at the within-groups level.) Is this what was planned in the example? Also, do you know of any papers which use this technique?

Thanks for your time!

In multilevel growth modeling, there is only one set of means for the growth
factors. These are placed in the between part of the model in Mplus in line with them being in level 2 of the HLM model. So the Mplus set up gives you exactly what two-level growth in HLM or any other multilevel program would give you.
