Dear Drs. Muthen,

We collected data at two points in time, meaning that we have comparatively high rates of missing data for the data collected at time 2. Accordingly, we decided not to use listwise deletion and instead use all data available.

Can you explain, what Mplus does when we use the command: Listwise = OFF? We could not find that information in the Mplus User Guide. Is using Listwise = OFF sufficient or do we have to use Type = MISSING with that?

Thank you for your help,
Gisela Gerlach

LISTWISE=OFF is the default as is TYPE=MISSING. The default is to use all available information to estimate the model. A brief description is given in Chapter 1 of the user's guide along with references.

Thank you. One question for clarification:

When using LISTWISE=OFF, one MUST use TYPE=MISSING, is that right? Or is the LISTWISE=OFF option available for other types?

Yes because the default in Mplus is to use all available data.

Hi Dr. Muthen,

I used listwise = on to do BASIC analysis to be sure my data was imported correctly.

Do I use listwise = off once I am ready to run my mole?

Thanks,
Sara

Yes, that would be the standard approach.
