Hi,

I am doing a path analysis with only observed variables. My independent and dependent variables are continuous, but I have two mediators that are ordered categorical with 3 and 7 categories, respectively. The mediators are coded 1-3 and 1-7, respectively.

When interpreting the output, I assumed that the reference category was 1, but now I have read in many other answers here in Mplus discussion that the last category is the reference category - at least when the dependent variable/mediator is nominal.

Is this also the case when the dependent variable/mediator is ordinal? Or is the reference category the first category?

Thanks in advance!
Best, Rikke

For ordered categorical, the reference category is the first. For nominal, it is the last.
