Dear Dr. Muthen, I am hoping to run an analysis with a categorical variable as a predictor variable. The variable named (BLA) has five categories 1= Innovators, 2= Early Adopters, 3= Early Majority, 4= Late Majority and 5= Laggards. In the MPlus syntax BLA is in the variables list and in the used variable list. What I am not sure is if I create dummy variables for the different categories where do the dummy variables go – in the variable list and the used variable list or somewhere else? How does Mplus know that BLA has the dummy variables associated with it? Best Regards, Abdullah |

The variable BLA should appear in the NAMES= list because this list refers to the columns in your data set. You can use the Define command to create the 4 dummy variables and they should then appear in the USEV list (not BLA). |

Dr Muthen, Thank you very much for your prompt response! I need to know how to code the dummy variables correctly for the MPlus syntax? Best Regards, Abdullah |

Just like you would do in a regular regression. If unclear, consult SEMNET. |
