Hi,

I have noticed from time to time that MPlus will estimate a path that is not requested. Typically, it will correlate two variables. For instance, in the model:

med on X1 X2;
Y1 on med;
Y2 on med;

In this example, Mplus is correlating Y1 and Y2. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a reason this is happening or am I doing something wrong?

I can solve the issue by specifying:
Y1 with Y2@0;

Still, it has me wondering whether I am missing some code somewhere.

Mplus has various defaults all of which can be overridden. If you don't want this residual covariance, you can fix it to zero as you have done.
