Hello, I just got a warning in my Mplus output, it said: "There is an indirect effect involving a path between the following variables, but no indirect or direct path exists in the model. Indirect effect: HWA IND ACT" How/What should I interpret the warning statement? Thank you |

Sorry, Here is my syntax: MODEL: GH ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; DIA ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; FEV ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; GAS ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; AST ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; ATO ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; EME ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; HOP ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; ALG ON INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; INC ON VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; VEF WITH TV ACT SMO REP SAF; TV WITH HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; HWA WITH SMO; ACT WITH SMO REP SAF; SMO WITH REP SAF; REP WITH SAF; GH WITH DIA FEV GAS AST ALG ATO EME HOP; DIA WITH FEV GAS AST ATO EME HOP ALG; FEV WITH GAS AST ATO EME HOP ALG; GAS WITH AST ATO EME HOP ALG; AST WITH ATO EME HOP ALG; ATO WITH EME HOP ALG; EME WITH HOP ALG; HOP WITH ALG; HWA WITH VEF ACT REP SAF@0; MODEL INDIRECT: GH IND INC VEF TV HWA ACT SMO REP SAF; and I got the warning statements: *** WARNING in MODEL INDIRECT command There is an indirect effect involving a path between the following variables, but no indirect or direct path exists in the model. Indirect effect: VEF IND TV, TV IND HWA, HWA IND ACT, ACT IND SMO, SMO IND REP, REP IND SAF I didn't assume that there is indirect effect in these pairs, but how come these warning statements came up? Thank you! |

Please see MODEL INDIRECT in the user's guide. The variable before IND is the dependent variable. The last variable after IND is the observed exogenous variable in the indirect effect. The other variables are mediators. Apparently you don't have paths from saf to gh that go through all of these mediators. |
