I am in the process of designing a longitudinal study with three data collection waves to investigate Anosognosia in a group of "healthy" adults at risk of Alzheimer's disease. We have reasons to believe that there will be latent trajectory classes but we do not know the proportion of individuals in each class. We also know what predictors we would like to include in the model.
My question is, how do you estimate the power and sample size requirements for this type of model. We want to know how many individuals we need to recruit. Is there a programs or approach available that can be used to estimate power and ss?
Or should we use regular growth model "heuristics" to estimate sample size? Please advise.
