Is it possible to compare the fit of a mixture model to that of a model in which class membership is constrained toa previously identified categories? For example, in an organizational context ... is it possible to compare the fit of a taxonomy derived from a mixture model with that of a model in which members are constrained to categories of a pre-existing conceptual typology (e.g., Miles and Snow)? |

As long as the same observed variables are used, you should be able to use BIC for this. |

Linda, I apologize for not being more specific in the original post ... Are there examples of this in any of the training videos, newer user guide examples or sample papers? I am not certain how to set up this analysis (model syntax, options, etc.). Thanks, George |

There is not example of this exact comparison. The user's guide has many mixture model examples. You would use the KNOWNCLASS option to create classes according to the identified categories. |
