Scaling issues for surveys in a CFA |

Hi Drs. Muthen, I am trying to run a CFA on a measure that I used for my dissertation data. I realize, however, that for the measure I'm using, the author suggested weighting individual item scores when coming up with domain scores. So, for example, questions 1-3 relate to the first subscale, and the author suggests summing these item scores and then multiplying them by .3 to obtain a participant's domain score. I'm a little confused about whether or not I need to weight all of my participants' scores accordingly when conducting the CFA, or if this weighting is more important in clinical use and does not matter for a CFA. I'm not sure if I completely made myself clear here, but I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on the matter. Furthermore, if I do need to weight the scores, how might I do that? Thank you so much for your help, Betsy Lehman |

This question is more appropriate for a general discussion forum like SEMNET given that it is not related to Mplus. |
