Hi Linda,

I have noticed that in example 9.6 the model suggests residual variances of variables Y1-Y4 at the unit level being constrained to zero. Could you please explain in which occasion that we need to constrain this and when we can allow it to be freely estimated. Thank you.

I would not constrain them unless I had convergence problems and saw that they are being estimated at zero or very close to zero.
