Hi,

I'm new to SEM, but am needing to become familiar with it during my PhD to model heritability. My supervisors have recommended I start having a look at Mx but I have to admit I'm finding it tough going and there seems to be little support out there for people starting.

MPlus seems better on the other hand from the point of view of having a discussion board like this and plenty of tutorials to look over.

Can someone explain the main differences between the 2 softwares (apart from Mx being free). Does MPlus do stuff Mx doesn't? Once you learn one can you switch to the other with relative ease?

Thanks a lot.

Paul

The programs do essentially the same thing. Mplus may do more in the multilevel modeling area. See the Genetics topic under Special Mplus Topics for further information.

I don't think going between the two programs would be that easy as they have different interfaces.
