Do you know what this error is?

Have you declared the asterisk (*) a missing value flag?

Hello,

I am new to the MPlus software, and I had the same error message:

*** ERROR
(Err#: 64)
Invalid symbol at record #: 7
The record is shown below this message
"33321211122121212*121122111231"

I was getting this error when I had set numeric values for my missing values

MISSING = ALL (88 99); (THAT IS HOW MISSING VALUES ARE DEFINED IN MY SPSS DATASET)

However, I followed the above post and placed * for missing values:

MISSING = *; and the problem was fixed.

Shouldn't the definition of missing values in mplus be the same as in the spss dataset?

Thank you in advance,
Have a nice day,

Margarita

Your data set has asterisks. If this is the missing value flag, this is what Mplus requires for missing. This is a function of how you created the data set.

Hi,

I am estimating a series of nested path analysis. When I did not enter "child gender" (this is not the only variable that causes this problem) in the USEVARIABLES list, the model was terminated normally. But when I put "child gender" in the USEVARIABLES list, I got the following error messages. I could not figure out what was going on.

The data record is too long to print. Refer to your data file.

Open the file in the Mplus editor. You will see the invalid character at the beginning of the data set. Delete it and save the data.

Thank you so much, Linda! This solved the problem... Much appreciated!

Hi,

After trying all the suggestions in this post to fix my problems (add format statement, declare missing values as asterixes, etc.) I am still getting an error message. Can you advise?
