My relatively simple question has to do with modeling the effects of covariates (age, race, gender) on latent variable IVs and DVs.

In the example below where Y is a latent variable, is the effect of age on Y independent of the other covariates included in the model statement? Is this the effect of age, controlling for the rest of the covariates?

Y on age gender race;

Secondarily, if examining a theoretical model within an intervention---do we include treatment arm as a covariate or a grouping variable?

When there are several covariates, the regression coefficients are partial regression coefficients controlling for the other covariates.

You can include treatment as either a covariate of a grouping variable.
