I am working on a 2 level model, with students nested within schools. In some clusters, some of the L2 predictors are blank for some students; for instance, students a,b, and c all go to school 1, but the principal's years of experience are only filled in for student a and b, not for student c.
Is there a way of dealing with missing data that will automatically complete this type of missing data by filling in the values that are present for the other students within that cluster?
When I do multiple imputation, I get an error saying that there is within-cluster variance on L2 predictors for clusters that have one missing cell on a L2 predictor.

Also, just to be clear, I have already declared the L2 predictors as between.

Level 2 variables should have the same value for all members of a cluster. It seems you can assign the same value as other cluster members have.
