Dear Linda,
I am not sure that I understand how it is possible that a restricted CFA model (items over 3 time points resticted to be equal in the different time points) has better fit indices (CFI and RMSEA) as compared to the same model when the items are not restricted free. Could you briefly comment on this? Thanks a lot in advance,

This seems counter intuitive. A more restrictive model should fit worse. I would need to see the two outputs and your license number at support@statmodel.com to comment further.
