Hi,

I am receiving the following error message as I am trying to perform a CFA:

"Categorical variable RETIS1 contains 194 categories.
This exceeds the maximum allowed of 10"

I have input the following information:

"TITLE: two-factor TIS at time 2
DATA: FILE IS MPlus_ASCII.dat;
VARIABLE: NAMES ARE RETIS1-RETIS10;
CATEGORICAL ARE RETIS1-RETIS10;
ANALYSIS: TYPE IS general;
ESTIMATOR = WLSMV;
MATRIX = covariance;
MODEL: f1 BY RETIS1-RETIS5;
f2 BY RETIS6-RETIS10;
OUTPUT: standardized;
sampstat;
modindices;
residual;"

I have 194 participants, each with scores ranging from 0-3, on 10 variables.

Please can you advise me on this.

Many thanks

It sounds like you are reading the data incorrectly. You must have an ID variable as the first variable in the data set for which you did not include the name in the NAMES statement.
